Library of the Séminaire
israélite de France (SIF)
History
The library is specialized in the fields of Bible, Talmud, Halakhah, rabbinic literature, Hebrew law, homiletics, history and sociology of Judaism. The initial collection came from the former Metz Yeshiva but was greatly enlarged through donations and bequests, and thanks to a rigorous policy of acquisition and renewal.
Confiscated by the Nazis during World War II, the library was reconstituted over the years by a succession of librarians. Today its collection of Talmudic literature is unique in France and probably in Europe.
